Spotter AI has reached an exciting point in its growth. With more than 700 employees now part of the company, we’re continuing to expand the teams behind the technology we build for motor carriers, fleet operators and transportation professionals.

That includes our development team.

We’re currently looking for Full Stack Developers who want to work on real-world technology challenges across trucking and logistics. But as we look toward the next stage of growth, we also wanted to recognize some of the developers who helped get us here.

From early products and internal tools to platforms now being used and integrated by transportation companies, Spotter AI’s developers have played a major role in how the company has evolved. They work across engineering, product and operations to turn everyday transportation challenges into software that can make a measurable difference for the people using it.

Building Technology Around Real Trucking Problems

The work at Spotter AI goes beyond writing code or checking off feature requests. Our developers regularly work on problems involving transportation management, driver screening and safety, compliance, freight intelligence, automation, mapping and operational data.

That philosophy also shapes how we recruit.

Rather than relying only on resumes and traditional interviews, candidates for our current Full Stack Developer opening are given an opportunity to demonstrate how they think through an actual transportation technology challenge.

The current assessment involves building a weather-aware trip planning application using Django and React. Candidates are asked to compare multiple truck routes, evaluate forecast conditions along each route and recommend an option based on factors including weather risk, distance, travel time and load conditions.

It gives candidates a better look at the kind of problem-solving our engineering team takes on while giving us a chance to see how developers approach data, design, user experience and technical decisions.

The Developers Behind Spotter AI

Some of the best perspective on working at Spotter AI comes from developers who joined during earlier stages of the company and have watched both the technology and team evolve.

Ahmed Abdulnaby — Tech Lead

Ahmed Abdulnaby, Tech Lead at Spotter AI

Ahmed Abdulnaby is approaching his two-year anniversary with Spotter AI, having joined the company with the goal of doing more than simply writing code. “What attracted me was the opportunity to build meaningful technology, solve real-world problems, and have a direct impact on the product,” Abdulnaby said. “I wanted to be somewhere I could contribute beyond just writing code, take ownership of what I build, and grow alongside the company. Looking back, that’s exactly what this journey has been about.”

During that time, Abdulnaby has watched both the scale of Spotter AI’s technology and its development process evolve. He points to Sentinel’s growth from a platform focused on internal operations into technology that other companies can now integrate directly into their own systems. The engineering team has also incorporated AI into its daily development workflow, using multiple models to challenge ideas, review implementations and improve code quality. “It’s helped us move much faster while maintaining high engineering standards,” he said.

Among the projects he is most proud of are the recently launched Sentinel Analytics Portal and Sentinel API Portal, which allow partners to integrate Spotter’s driver vetting capabilities into their own products through dedicated sandbox and production environments. He also highlighted Spotter’s direct integration with CDLIS and state systems as a major technical milestone. “We’re not just building features or moving data between systems,” Abdulnaby said. “We’re helping companies make better hiring decisions, simplifying complicated processes, and contributing to safer roads.”

For Abdulnaby, one of Spotter AI’s biggest strengths is the amount of ownership developers have over their work. “Our developers aren’t just handed tickets and expected to write code. They’re encouraged to challenge requirements, suggest better approaches, contribute to product decisions, and take ownership of their work from planning and implementation all the way through testing and production,” he said. As a Tech Lead, he now helps create that same environment for other developers while taking on greater responsibility across architecture, technical decisions, planning and team leadership.

That growth is also what he would emphasize to developers considering joining Spotter AI. “If you’re someone who enjoys solving challenging problems, taking ownership, and constantly learning, Spotter AI is a great place to be,” Abdulnaby said. “You’ll get to work across the full stack, tackle real engineering challenges, and build features that genuinely matter to the people using them.” His advice to new developers is simple: “Come with curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to take responsibility. There’s a lot of room to grow here, both as an engineer and as a professional.”

Krishna Sunuwar — Full-Stack Developer

Krishna Sunuwar, Full-Stack Developer at Spotter AI

Krishna has been part of Spotter AI’s development team for more than six years, joining the company on October 15, 2020, as one of its earliest engineers. Since then, he has helped build several of the company’s core applications, including the original Spotter dispatch app, Truckbase, Spotter TMS and TMS Admin. He is now one of Spotter AI’s longest-serving employees, having watched the company’s technology and engineering teams grow significantly.

“The scale of what we build,” Krishna said when asked what has changed the most since he joined. “In 2020 there was one app, the Spotter dispatch app. Now we run more than 30 apps on Google Cloud.” His work has evolved alongside that growth, expanding beyond traditional full-stack development into cloud administration, DevOps, security, architecture and performance oversight across Spotter AI’s products.

One of his proudest accomplishments is helping build Truckbase from the ground up, a project he worked on for more than three years. Krishna helped design the application’s architecture, develop its APIs and implement technology that allowed dispatchers to see incoming loads in real time rather than constantly refreshing their screens. He has also taken a leading role in managing Spotter’s cloud environments and optimizing infrastructure costs, helping the company save more than $300,000 since April 2024 through more efficient cloud resource management.

What makes the work especially rewarding, Krishna says, is how closely the technology connects to real trucking operations. “I was very surprised how much of trucking still ran on phone calls, spreadsheets, paper and fax. That gap is what makes this work so satisfying: almost everything we automate changes someone’s day.”

He also values the ability developers have to influence products and make meaningful technical decisions. During the company’s earlier years, Krishna recalls working directly with Co-Founder Gabriel Stonys and the development team to brainstorm features and shape applications from initial concept to implementation. That sense of ownership has remained important as the company has grown.

For prospective full-stack developers, Krishna describes a workplace where engineers are encouraged to take on different challenges, understand the business and continue learning. “You won’t be stuck in one layer. In the same week you might design a database model, fix a React render issue, tune a Kubernetes deployment and read a cloud bill,” he said. “Learn the business: talk to the dispatchers and accountants who use what you build. And keep learning, because the tools change fast.”

Growing With the People Who Build the Technology

Spotter AI’s growth has meant more products, more users and increasingly complex problems for our engineering teams to solve. It has also created opportunities for developers to grow alongside the company, take ownership of projects and influence how products evolve.

For developers considering Spotter AI, the opportunity is not simply to join a company that is hiring. It is to become part of a growing engineering organization building technology around an industry that moves millions of loads and keeps businesses across the country connected.

As Spotter AI moves beyond the 700-employee milestone, we’re proud of the developers who have helped build the company to this point and excited to welcome the people who will help build what comes next.
